Health and Safety Policy

The Health and Safety at Work Etc Act 1974 states an absolute duty that all employers who have five or more employees must produce a written health and safety policy. That policy must also be signed by the senior executive and dated. Even where a documented health and safety in not legally required, allot of smaller organisations are increasingly being asked by existing clients or prospective clients to produce a statement of intent for health and safety, as they require all partners in their business to demonstrate that they operate a safety conscious organisation.

A health and safety company policy is a unique document for your organisation that says who does what, when and how. It is a health and safety document that our health and safety consultants can help you prepare that sets out your organisations general approach, objectives and the arrangements you have put in place for managing health and safety. If you employ more than five employees your policy must be documented.

So what should be in your policy

A written health and safety company policy does not need to be complicated or time consuming. It tells your employees and other concerned parties about your commitment to health and safety with your organisation, and should simply describe how you intend to implement and monitor your health and safety control measures.

A health and safety policy developed by our health and safety consultants consists of:

  • a general policy statement of intent for the whole business.
  • documented  organisational responsibilities
  • specific written arrangements of how the Organisation will control and comply with the relevant legislation

A policy will only be effective when it is implement correctly and efficiently and managed by competent employees.
